Walk for Values

“Walk for Values” is a walkathon designed to raise awareness of Human Values and to promote the individual and collective responsibility for the progress of humanity, one step at a time. This unique initiative is a non-monetary, non-denominational event, based on the five basic human values of Love, Peace, Truth, Right Conduct, and Nonviolence.

In preparation for the walkathon, Students at Sathya Sai School do a self-assessment to determine which value they need to practice for personal growth and make a pledge to practice that value throughout the year. The walkathon takes place on a Sunday, at the end of May/beginning of June, at a location in either Scarborough or downtown Toronto. Students and their families attend, joined by several thousand people.

A program of speeches by dignitaries and entertainment is provided. Students and other children and adults from the community perform songs, dances, and music. A long parade is formed, comprising students and adults, accompanied by bands, banners, placards, floats and large balloons. The parade moves along a designated route, cheered on by onlookers. It is a grand day, with positive messages being broadcast into the atmosphere and minds of people.

Inspired by Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings, the students, teachers, and parents of the Sathya Sai School of Toronto-Canada, organized the first Walk for Values in the City of Toronto, Canada in 2003. Walk for Values has now spread to cities across Canada and has grown to reach many cities around the world, over 4 continents, in countries including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong, India, and Malaysia.
