Sathya Sai Baba, Our Founder
Sathya Sai Baba is a highly revered educator, healer and spiritual leader working for the welfare of humanity. His life and message inspire millions of people throughout the world to turn God-ward and to lead more purposeful and moral lives. His timeless and universal teachings, along with the manner in which he led his own life, attract seekers of Truth from all the countries and religions of the world. He daily exhibited in practical terms the highest ideals of a moral life. He has often stated, "My life is my message."
His life from the age of 14 was devoted to uplifting humanity, bringing people back to the path of goodness, and giving help to the poor and suffering. Sathya Sai Baba was filled with a divine Love so powerful and pure, that it transforms the heart of the millions of people who come into contact with him and his life’s work.
Love all, serve all
“The one God dwells in the hearts of all people.”
Over the course of his life, he taught people the importance of turning within to find one’s divine self. He taught that within the heart of everyone exist basic universal human values that need to be drawn out and put into action in our lives, and thus transform us into true human beings. These human values are truth, right conduct, peace, love and nonviolence.
Sathya Sai Baba’s life was guided by truth and filled with love and compassion for others. Selfless service to humanity is a key message that he both taught and lived. His service was expressed through massive projects that bring the necessities of life to millions of people, in the fields of education, medical care, water, and social uplift.
“Human values have to be cultivated right from childhood.”
Sathya Sai Baba placed great importance on education and consequently developed a system of integral education to address the physical, mental, psychological and spiritual aspects of a person, in order to bring forth well-balanced human beings who could reach heights of both academic excellence and spiritual awareness.
Central to this educational system are the universal human values that one can draw forth from within the heart and then apply practically in daily life.
Love is the foundation and will bring about all the values:
Love as thought is Truth
Love as action is Right Conduct
Love as feeling is Peace
Love as understanding is Nonviolence
Sathya Sai Baba knew that human values have to be cultivated right from childhood. He therefore created educational institutions, from elementary schools to universities, that are suffused with love and all the values. In these institutions, worldly knowledge is balanced with spiritual knowledge and awareness of the human values. Reflecting upon these values and putting them into practice transforms the child’s consciousness to higher levels of awareness, known as the superconscious mind. The result of this transformation is the development of academic excellence along with the blossoming of love and compassion. Love will reveal to us that all are God’s children and that we should treat others’ suffering as our own.
“We have to make full use of our education and energies for the benefit of society.”
Sathya Sai Baba urged people to understand and practice the ideal of service to society. We are a part of society and what we received from society should be returned back to society. Social responsibility plays a large role in all of Sathya Sai Baba’s educational institutions, where students participate in service projects, such as providing food to the less fortunate, attending to the elderly, and giving aid during natural disasters.
